By connect code (anywhere)

Type the sending Mac's code and password on the viewer or receiver. The two find each other over the internet with no router setup. This works between buildings and between cities.

By address (same network)

Leave the code empty on the receiver. Then type the receiver's address on the sending Mac: the Apple TV shows its own address on its first screen, for example 192.168.1.53. The password is still needed on both ends.

Encryption

Every connection is encrypted. The two ends agree a fresh key each time they connect, the password is part of that key, and every packet is locked with AES-GCM. Without the password, nobody can watch or listen. Both ends need the current version of Transmitter.
